To celebrate forty four years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Poland and the Lao P.D.R.
"Posters from Poland" Exhibition at the Luang Prabang National Museum August 28 - September 28, 2006 (...) Poland for many years had the reputation of an interesting "wall art centre". Artists of exceptional talent and originality created posters in Poland that is why they are abundant in a great variety of artistic expression. Its distinct character and artistic value soon caused the world to speak of the Polish school of poster. (...) (...) The main aim of poster is to announce something. Its gallery is the street. The life span of the poster is very short, like the life of a butterfly: every male-butterfly uses its colors and shapes to attract a female-butterfly and it vanishes as soon as it fulfills its communication function. The authors of posters also use colors and shapes to capture attention of millions of passers-by in the streets in order to announce them something. But the new poster quickly terminates the short existence of the previous one. There is a certain magic in the posters which can be discovered beyond their intended function of communication: it is their decorative imagination. Many people collect them as pieces of art. And perhaps that is why such a trivial and ephemeral product like poster can become the subject of exposition like this one.
